The Annual General Meeting of the Northern Provincial State Veterinary Surgeons’ Association was successfully held on 2nd July 2025 at Valampuri Hotel, Jaffna. The event was presided over by the Association’s President, Dr. M.Muralithas, and Secretary, Dr.S.Sukeerthan.

The Honourable Governor of the Northern Province, Mr.N.Vethanayahan, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and addressed the gathering. During the meeting, government veterinary surgeons briefed the Governor on the extensive services they provide across the province and the practical challenges they face in delivering these services effectively. In his remarks, the Governor acknowledged their concerns, expressed his appreciation for their dedication, and emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing key issues such as controlling the stray dog population in the region. He assured the Association of his support in overcoming these challenges and encouraged continued partnership with the provincial administration.

As part of the proceedings, the Association elected its new Executive Committee for the upcoming term. The newly appointed office bearers are as follows:

President: Dr. T. Senthuran
Secretary: Dr. S. Kirubananthakumaran
Treasurer: Dr. N. Shanjayan
Vice President: Dr. S. Thayaparan
Assistant Secretary: Dr. (Mrs.) J. Kajenthini

In addition, district representatives were elected to further strengthen the Association’s activities at the local level.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to advancing veterinary services in the Northern Province and enhancing animal welfare and community well-being.
